	            - Beta Release - Version 1.56
                                        July 2003

THIS VERSION IS UNSUPPORTED
 - This uses the old code and DOESN'T require a DirectX 8 graphics card

A NEW VERSION IS COMING
 - It uses completely rewritten code and WILL require a DirectX 8 graphics card

FIXES:-
One, the bug where the worm wouldn't get hurt pointing downwards...I didn't change
the code in any way, although I looked at it - I found out I didn't have this bug
on my folder with the old WR in it, so I think it may have been an old def file or
maybe a graphics file that hadn't been replaced when I made up the zip for 1.55
My apologies for this - I've went through and re-copied every file into a new folder,
tested it in the same way on both the v1.55 folder & the new folder and the v1.55
release shows the bug, the new folder one doesn't.
It's strange this bug - the sad thing is I didn't need to do any code change - so
who knows what caused it! It seems to be fixed now.
Why did I bother fixing it? Well it was because I had a good day fixing the new WR
and I felt so good I felt like looking into this bug in the old WR code. If more
ppl realised that if *I* feel good about WR then I *WANT* to work at doing the horrible
bug fixing stuff - but no, ppl only care about themselves and don't realise the best
way to motivate is not through attacks or moans but through cheering up the developer
enough to do time-consuming, tedious work for no pay. No wonder the original Liero
developer gave up making an official sequel on Liero and dropped out the community
for a long time - I've read the unfair, nasty and just plain downputting comments
about Liero on websites still found on the web. Of course, now after it's too late
everyone is nice about Liero - shame, everyone didn't think about being nicer before
they sickened the original Liero developer. Support ALL the developers of Liero
sequels! I do! A regularly updated list of them can be found here:

                  http://www.d11clan.net/continued.php

UPDATES:-
This version has MANY updates - but they are unsupported and will not be
compatible with the new version, but at least you get a much more stable game now :)
Lots of new weapon settings & level options - but no time yet to detail here.

REQUIREMENTS:-

   - 32Mb Pentium III 500 MHz
   - 6 Mb Hard Drive space
   - 4 Mb standard Graphics card
   - Windows XP/NT/95/98/ME/2000...the list is getting a bit big...
   - Windows compatible Soundcard
   - DirectX 3 or above
   - Keyboard

RECOMMENDED:-

   - Pentium 4 2Ghz or above (ensures no slow down with lots of particles & full shadows)

INSTALLATION:-

o Unzip the 'WormRage.zip' and it will create a folder inside 'Games' called 'WormRage'

   o And that's it! Run by double-clicking on 'WormRageBeta1_55.exe'
       inside that folder

CONTROLS:-

Menu-screen controls:-
---------------------
All controls are shown on screen for each player at start-up.

Hold down the 'Select' and 'Jump' keys together to randomly select all
   weapons in a worm's armorary.

To adjust the in-game settings, use any Players 'Gadget' key to bring
up a menu of options. I'll let you try out what they do...

For four player you could try the keyboard, but you may be able
to use your joystick's software to use the keys required by one of
   the players.

You can reconfigure the keys for each worm by selecting 'change keys'
You can also now set the controller from 'keyboard' to 'CPU' for computer
controlled worm opponents (beware! they may be a bit stupid right now,
but if they aren't blocked by rocks, they'll get ya! ;) Give them a
lazer or minigun for fun! You'll have to press there 'Fire' key to
start them off into the game.

In-game controls:-
-----------------
   > Move the worm left, right with player 'Left' & 'Right' keys

   > Jump with the player 'Jump' key

   > Hold down the player's 'Select' key and then 'Left' or 'Right
to change your weapon from your armorary.
<*NEW*>
   > *Tap* the 'Gadget' key to shoot either the Bungy Rope or turn on
the Jetpack. While holding the 'Gadget' key, use the 'Up' & 'Down'
keys to decrease or increase the length of the Bungy Rope or the
       strength of the Jetpack.
Press 'Jump' key to put either away.

ADDITIONAL SETUP:-

An Icon for any shortcuts you might create to the game is included,
   in the file:
                      WormRageIcon.ico

To use, create the shortcut to the 'WormRageBeta1_16.exe' and then
right click on the shortcut and choose 'Properties' and click on the
'Change Icon' button, then 'Browse' to the icon file above.

CONFIGURATION FILES:-

You can configure WormRage's 'pref.cfg' file, be careful now! And
remember you can set *most* of this file from the in-game Menu
and it will save it when you quit.
<*NEW*>
If you delete it, the 'pref.cfg' file will be rewritten with default values.

You can now make and alter the weapons completely by altering and adding
files inside the Weapons folder. My advice is to create a sub-folder
in the Weapons folder for all your own weapons and a separate folder for
each weapon with all its graphics and sounds required inside it along with
the weapon .cfg file as well. That way you can zip it and give it easily
   to other people.

DON'T put your WEAPON GRAPHICS/SOUNDS in the WormRage Graphics & Sounds folder!

The way a weapon .cfg file works is explained in the 'wormrageweapons.htm'
file included in this zip - or see the webpage Technical section for more.

You can generate a new random level with F2.
You can also save and load levels. Press F9 to save, and F5 to load. You
can make a new level by renaming the save level (found in the Levels folder,
with a .lev extension) and copying and renaming the default .cfg file to the
same name as your .lev file is. You can add/change new stone images to the
.cfg file and also set up ornamental images in the same way.

Levels can now spawn objects and weapons...but I've no time to explain here

You can also download music and extra background ground graphics
	from the webpage's MODs page.

TROUBLE SHOOTING:-

If you have problems, check the requirements above or you can see
   the webpage at:

             http://www.skip.to/wormrage

You can email me to let me know - but unless it's a easy fix I won't spend
time on fixing it. I am quite far on working on a new version which uses
completely different code and so fixing this version isn't a priority -
making a much better new game is! =)

Please remember this is the last release based on the old code and it's free...
It should be more reliable - but I haven't time to test it fully - but I
hope you get some fun from it - it seemed a shame to not release this version
when I spent 6 extra months working on it. :)

First and foremost, thankyou to the original Liero creators MetsnElimet
that inspired this clone.

My thanx to John M Phillips (of the Bitmap Brothers) for his C++ 2D
Gamesystem and the tutorial in PC Format magazine (only got the first
part of six tutorials - but from that brought forth this game! =)

Also a thankyou to Ian Luck for his BASS soundcard DLL, check out his

Thanks to all the people who bothered to give me all the positive (and yeah,
even the fair negative <grin>) feedback I've had about WormRage. And to
the regulars (The Headless Armadillo, The Geek) who helped
advertise and support me.

Thanx go to gss03 for supporting the forum & www.wormrage.com site.

Another thanx to The Headless Armadillo for his WormRage Resource website -
the most comprehensive place to get new stuff from - also upload your MODs

great variety!

Finally, I would like to thank my Mum for always listening and showing the
fortitude to put up with me talking about my programming problems... =)
