                     VITESSE LIMITE 4.2
==============================================================

G. LECLERE 2004-2006

"Vitesse Limite" is a program that communicates with a GPS through a
serial port, allowing the user to be warned in the event of going
beyond a selected speed. It's a donateware", that is to say
I ask for just a short donation if you like this software (see
address at the end of this file).

The selection of the speed limit is done through a screen
containing larges icons, allowing fast and easy handling
during the driving.

The warning is audible and visual, with the option to
mute the audible announcements.

For safety reasons, an audible and visual warning alertsthe driver
when the GPS looses communications with the software, in a tunnel for
example, or when the GPS battery is exhausted.

CAUTION: THIS SOFTWARE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE WITH THE INSTRUMENTS
OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS USED UNDER THE TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY
OF THE DRIVER. THE AUTHOR CAN AND WILL NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR
THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE IN CASE OF ACCIDENT.

VitesseLimite is available free of charge, but is copyrighted by the developer,
Guillaume LECLERE, who retains the right to control its redistribution and
to sell it in the future

INSTALLATION
------------
1 - copy the CAB file corresponding to the target platform in a
temporary directory of the Pocket PC.
2 - tap on the CAB for launching the installation.
3 - launch the VitesseLimite program and go in the menu
"Options/Configuration" to set the port and data flow speed.

For the systems other than WM2003, it is necessary to install
Microsoft's NET Compact Framework 1, available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=fr&FamilyID=359EA6DA-FC5D-41CC-AC04-7BB50A134556

UPDATE
------
1 - remove existing installation by using the remove tool of
Windows CE
2 - Your parameters will be
preserved if you follow the procedure above.

USE
---
1 - after the launching the application, the speed indicator flashes
without an audible announcement, inviting you to connect the GPS.
2 - the indicator symbolizing an antenna launches the connection to the
GPS. If the port and the flow are correct, the red indicator will
flash green, indicating the reception of information from the GPS.
3 - As long as the position from the GPS is not reliable, the speed
indicator will flash and an audible announcement warns you that the
speed control is not possible.
4 - as soon as positioning is correct, the speed indicator stops flashing
and the audible announcement stops.
5 - you then choose the speed limit by pressing on the small speed limit
icon in top left of the display.
6 - if you exceed the selected speed, the screen background becomes orange,
and an audible warning indicates that you have exceeded your preset speed limit,
with a repeat announcement every minute. If you exceed your preset speed limit
by more than 5 mph, the screen background becomes red and second audible warning
alerts you every 10 seconds.
7 - in the event of rain, you can decrease the speed limit by pressing on the
small sun icon in top right on the display.
8 - to disable the audible warnings (not advised), press the small loudspeaker
icon in bottom of the display.
9 - synchronization, is indicated by 'no fix', '2D' or '3D' and number of
synchronized satellites.
10 - you can customize the anticipation of exceeding your preset speed limit
in the 'Options/Configuration' menu.
11 - you can switch to 'night' mode by taping on the
small sun icon in bottom right of the display.
12 - and more to be discovered...

COUNTRIES
---------
The management of the speed limits multi-country in the file 'Pays.cfg' make
it possible to easily change limits when you cross a border. It can be edited
with a simple text editor. It also allows adding custom limits.
The declaration of a screen starts with a name between hooks (see example below).
It's this name which will appear in the tab page where you can select the
countries, and in bottom of the screen where you choose the limits.
You can specify the measurement system ('US' or 'METRIQUE') with the line Systeme=.
You must follow 6 lines, from Limite1 = to Limite6 =, on which you indicate the
limit in dry weather and the limit when it rains, separated by a comma. It is
possible to declare up to 18 countries or states.

Example:

[France]
Systeme=METRIQUE
Limite1=30,30
Limite2=50,50
Limite3=70,60
Limite4=90,80
Limite5=110,100
Limite6=130,110
[England]
Systeme=US
Limite1=30,30
Limite2=45,40
Limite3=50,45
Limite4=60,55
Limite5=65,60
Limite6=70,65

You can then select in the menu "Options/Configuration" tab page
"Countries" only those countries you want to see in the speed limit
selection screen.

STATISTICS
----------
The module of statistics makes it possible to have information on
its trip, arranged in five categories:
- speed, made up the mean velocity, maximum speed reached, the mean velocity
  except stop, and minimal speed (for example for a way on motorway)
- time, with departure time, arrival time (which will be shown statistics
  are stopped), time spent stopped and time spent in jams (between 1 and 19 km/h)
- the distance covered
- altitude, maximum, minimal, the uneven one cumulated (the sum of the variations
  of altitude) and the uneven absolute (the difference between altitudes maximum
  and minimal)
- excess speeds: the number of going beyond of the limit, and the most important
  going beyond observed.

Use of the buttons (of left on the right):
- start
- stop
- init values
- save in a VL_stats_X.txt file, X = 1, 2, 3...
- closing of window (but not of the statistics)

POIs
----
VitesseLimite makes it possible to manage a file XML of POI containing the
position of speed cameras in the following form:

	<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
	<gpx xmlns="http://tempuri.org/radars.xsd">
	<wpt lat="1.23456" lon="1.23456">
		<name>Camera 1</name>
	</wpt>
	<wpt lat="1.23456" lon="1.23456">
		<name>Camera 2</name>
	</wpt>
	.
	.
	.
	</gpx>

This file has by defect for name "radars.xml". VitesseLimite is delivered
with a file "radars.xml" which contains only one camera for test in position
lat="0.00300" lon="0.00300".

To set up a file of cameras for France, you must download on the site
www.gpspassion.com the version "standard" or the version "Plus" base of cameras.
The version "Plus" allow to automatically adjust the speed limit that is controlled
by the camera. Once the file "radars.xml" decompressed, just copy it to the PDA
in the directory of VitesseLimite in the place of that existing. Other countries will
be covered soon.

The radarscope allows to see the cameras which are in a ray of X kilometers,
X varying from 1 to 16 by clicking on the right and on the left of the button "Range"
or by using the arrows right-hand side and left. Attention, you will see the cameras
only when you have a fixed position with the GPS.

The radars are represented by symbols indicating if they are fixed, mobile or
unspecified. A legend of these symbols is posted in bottom of the radarscope
in fullscreen mode (France only).

When you move, a red cone will be formed, indicating the zone of detection of proximity
of cameras. This zone starts an alarm at 30 seconds of a camera, a message of recall
intervenes at 10 seconds. Angle of detection is selectable in the configuration with
the POI's tab.

Finally the button "ON" allows to close the window, but the detection of the cameras
remains active. You can also close the window with the central button of the joypad (not
all PDA).

If the icon to reach the window of the cameras disapear during the loading, you can consult
the file "VitesseLimite_err.txt" to know the origin of the problem.

FALSE ALERT
-----------
If you are warned on a POI not in your road, you can disable the alert by tapping on the picture
showing the car approaching a radar. Caution : this action doesn't delete the POI from the
database.

CAPTURING YOUR POSITION
-----------------------
You can capture your position, course and speed by pressing one second the center button
of the pad. Informations are added in the file "Positions.txt" in the install directory of
VitesseLimite.

Here is an example of a capture :
+---------------------+
| 26/06/2006 21:56:54 |
+---------------------+
Latitude : 48.22433 S
Longitude : 1.08510 W
Cap : 360
Vitesse : 130km/h
<wpt lat="-48.22433" lon="-1.08510"> <name>26/06/2006 21:56:54 360</name> </wpt>

The last line can be directly cut and paste in the POI XML file in order to add an alert on this
position.

IN THE EVENT OF PROBLEM
-----------------------
1 - in the menu 'Options/Configuration', check the box to
'Show log'
2 - validate and connect the GPS. If screens scrolls but
synchronization is never made, or the speed does not vary, let
the program turn 2 minutes. Disconnect the GPS, and forward the file
'VitesseLimite_log.txt' to me by e-mail. This file is created in the
installation directory of the software.
3 - if no screen s'affiche, check that the GPS is lit,
the wearing of communication and the flow.
4 - if only France appears in the list of the countries, that's because
the file "Pays.cfg" has not been found in the installation directory,
or because it doens not contains valid information.

IF TOMTOM3 IS INSTALLED
-----------------------
TomTom3 locks the serial port even it is not started.
Here is a method suggested and approved on the forum at www.gpspassion.com
(warning, make this change at your own risk):
1 - download a basic registry editor. A good freeware is: PHMRegEdit
2 - make a backup copy of registry (there is a Backup option
in PHMRegEdit)
3 - go to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial8
4 - find the DLL chain and modify its value like this: replace
"xxxxxxxx.dll" by "BtCeIf.dll" (be carreful of lowercase/upercase)
5 - close PHMRegEdit
6 - Soft Reset
