2.0 INTRODUCTION
================

In The Vacuum, you play as Leo Wallace, a student at Aberdeen University who is headed back home
to Whitefall for summer with his girlfriend, Averie Piper. As a pair of poor, starving college
students, they decide to book a cheap room on a cargo ship that has extra room for passengers on
this particular trip. It's a short jaunt - only a day and a half - and it seems as though it
should be uneventful. But when a pair of explosions tear through the passenger compartment while
the ship is still in the middle of deep space, Leo and Averie must determine exactly what
happened, fix the problems, and discover what - or who - caused the explosions in the first
place.

Leo must search high and low for information, pay attention to the clues that he finds, and
carefully weigh every decision he makes. Based on his actions, his relationships will be
altered, justice will be served (or not), and lives will be saved or lost.

Note: before you begin playing, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you run winsetup.exe and select a
nearest-neighbor graphics filter, as this will make the game's graphics much more crisp.

4.0 MENUS
=========

4.1: Main menu
	"New Game" starts a new game.
	"Restore" opens the Restore Game dialog.
	"Credits" displays the credits sequence.
	"Quit" exits the game.

4.2: In-Game Menu
	While playing, move the mouse to the top of the screen. The inventory is
	on the left. By default, left-clicking on an inventory item selects it, and
 	right-clicking on an inventory item looks at it. The buttons on the right are, from left
	to right, OBJECTIVES, OPTIONS, SAVE, LOAD, and QUIT. Clicking on OBJECTIVES opens the
	Objectives screen; clicking on OPTIONS opens the Options Menu (sec. 4.3).

4.3: Options Menu

	"Invert Controls" switches the functions of left- and right-clicking on. When this is
	set to "OFF" (the default), left-clicking LOOKS AT or WALKS TO the location or thing that
	the player is clicking on, and right-clicking INTERACTS. When this is set to ON,
	left-clicking INTERACTS and right-clicking LOOKS AT and WALKS TO. This does not apply to
	interactions with items in the inventory window of the in-game menu.

	"Invert Inventory Controls" changes the default setting for right-clicking and
	left-clicking on inventory items in the inventory window of the in-game menu. When
	this is set to "off," left-click SELECTS an item and right-click LOOKS AT an item.
	When this is set to "on," the opposite is true.
	NOTE: This setting is bound to saved games. If you start a new game, you will need to
	reset this option to your preference again.

	"Space skips walk animation" toggles whether or not pressing the spacebar skips Leo's
	walking animation. When this setting is set to "on," if you press the spacebar while
	Leo is walking, he will instantly teleport to the place he is going (this is similar
	to an option in 'The Longest Journey,' which used ESC for the same basic function).
	This does not work during cutscenes.
	NOTE: This setting is bound to saved games. If you start a new game, you will need to
	reset this option to your preference again.

	"Text Speed" determines how long the text on the screen will linger before the next
	line appears. The higher the setting, the faster the text disappears.

========
5.0 TIPS
========

Here are some general tips for playing the game:

-Explore the ship! Finding more clues can only improve the outcome of the game.
-Talk to the other characters. They might just have valuable information.
-Carefully consider what you say to the other characters. What you say will effect how they
  interact with you and with each other.
-Carefully consider the potential consequences of each decision you make. The lives of everyone
  on board are in your hands.
-If you get stuck or forget what you're doing, press 'TAB' to check your objectives.
