Olympic Skier
=============
An entry for the 2003 Retro Remakes Competition - www.remakes.org
-----------------------------------------------------------------

An update of a classic early C64 sporting game. The aim of the game is to amass the highest score possible over 3 stages. The maximum score is 1000 points, but the game will require much practice and concentration to reach that score.

Installation instructions
-------------------------
Unzip in to a directory and run the EXE file to begin play. There should be 2 subdirectories. One called GFX and one called SFX.

If you do not have these subdirectories in the game folder then the game will not run properly. The game may also not run if another application is using the soundcard at the same time.

If you wish to play the game in a window rather than in fullscreen mode then create a shortcut to the EXE file and add /w to the command line. Note that if you play in windowed mode you should still press Escape to exit the game, otherwise the high score file will not be saved.

Gameplay instructions
---------------------
Stage 1 - Slalom
----------------
Ski downhill through the gates as quickly as possible. You will suffer a time penalty every time you miss a gate. Miss 3 gates and you are disqualified from the event.

Use the cursor keys or 2,4,6,8 on the numeric pad. Left/right moves the skier left and right. Pushing up slows the skier, while pushing down speeds him up.

Stage 2 - Ski Jump
------------------
Once you move to the start of the slope, you will need to build up as much power as possible to make the furthest jump. You will need to push up at the bottom of the ramp and hold that position while airborne to remain aerodynamic. You will then have to time your landing, as assuming the landing position prematurely will rapidly lower your altitude!

Repeatedly tap the spacebar to build up your power. Pushing the up cursor key or 8 on the numpad boosts the skiers launch off the jump and helps him remain aerodynamic. Pushing the down cursor key or 2 on the numpad makes the skier assume the landing position.

Stage 3 - Downhill
------------------
Similar to Slalom event, except that there are no gates to go through. The skier can now also jump over obstacles. Take care not to take too long or you will run out of time and the event will end.

Controls are the same as Slalom event, except pressing the spacebar or right ctrl key makes the skier jump.
