Orc 1.0

-------------------------

Overview

This project was to test and become comfortable with my Direct3D sprite library. It does not contain enough of a variety of features to be worth creating any more levels so I'm calling it finished and I hope it brings a small amount enjoyment to someone. It brought me an enormous amount of enjoyment to write.

-------------------------

Controls:

Arrow Left:	Left
Arrow Right:	Right
Arrow Up:	Up
Space: Fire Missile
Escape: Pause/Unpause

-------------------------

How To Play:

Pilot the Orc ship around four levels of increasing difficulty. Collect ALL of the stars on each level to activate the teleport and fly into the teleport ring to exit the level.

Avoid the mines. They cannot be destroyed. In fact the only thing your missiles are useful for is destroying the cardboard boxes.

Land on switches to activate them and open door blocks, but (on level four at least) be aware of what is above you when you do.

For those of you persistent enough to complete all four levels, I hope you enjoy the firework effects.

-------------------------

Options:

Edit the orc.cfg file in the executable directory to change the display mode. The game will use 800x600 but if you prefer a higher resolution, it will blacken the screen and run in a 800x600 box in the middle. This feature was added to support laptops that don't like non-native resolutions.

It should be obvious from the orc.cfg file how to change the start level and level order.

-------------------------

Errors:

There are no known bugs or errors and this game has been strenuously tested on a variety of computers running Windows XP. To my knowledge, the game should also run under Windows 98.

If, however, you should experience a crash, please report it to me via GameDev PM so I can investigate for the benefit of future projects. If the crash occurs during game start-up or shut-down, please PM me the orclog.txt file that will be located in the executable directory. Thanks in advance.

Credits

All the graphics are by me. The sound effects are based on various WAV files that were stated as freeware on the sites from which they were downloaded.

Special thanks to Programmer16 for providing the last level and making all the time I spent grappling the Win32 API to create the level editor worthwhile.

-------------------------

Thank you for downloading Orc. Any comments or criticisms via GameDev are very much welcome, but this project is now FINISHED so suggestions for improvements, while gratefully recieved, will NOT be acted upon.
