Note: All times mentioned here are in Finnish daylight savings time, which is
GMT+3 due to DST. So the competition started at Saturday 06:00 in local time,
and ends at Monday 06:00 in local time (2006-04-29 to 2006-05-01).

Saturday 09:25

Woke up to check the theme, and then back to bed.

Saturday 11:40

Finally got up, with some sort of idea or direction what I might try out. :-)

Saturday 12:15

Putting up framework, with borrowing few bits from earlier LD48 entries as it
seems to be generally acceptable, and linking together bunch of libraries
like SDL & FMOD.

Saturday 13:25

Got some initial test stuff on screen, took even a boring screenshot.

Saturday 13:35

Taking a break to have a breakfast with coffee.

Saturday 13:55

Back to work. I'm having a bunch of simple particles moving on screen, and
trying out if I can have some fancy way to add color. After a few tests I
decided to leave out the coloring stuff not to spend too much time on that
kind of tuning for now (and the initial tests made it much slower :).

Saturday 14:15

Trying out some different behaviors for particles to aim towards target.
Managed to create some kind of black hole and then a funky blast-thingy
which moves particles funnily in a chaotic but still nice looking way.

Saturday 15:55

Got the small particle behaviors working ok with "collectors", which are
going to be a gameplay element. Now I'm experimenting again with gfx
programs on models how I might want to render some visuals.

Saturday 16:05

I used the previous blast-thingy screenshot as source material for some of
the game art.. so now my art assets are partly generated with custom software
"for the task" instead of some out of the box plugins in art packages. ;-)

Saturday 16:28

Got some preliminary rendering done. Took a screenshot as it looks semi-nice,
but I'm not very satisfied with it yet, so I'll probably tweak stuff a bit
more later.

Saturday 17:58

Spent too much time doing graphics for a ship, which even turned out to be
very simple.

Saturday 18:30

Created and coded graphic representation for the collectors.
200604291831.jpg

Saturday 19:13

Added scrolling for the game view.

Saturday 21:47

Some movement logic for the ship is done, and now I found myself doing again
some visual stuff instead of continuing with the gameplay. :)

Saturday 22:17

Time to take a break and eat something. :)

Saturday 23:40

Watched yesterday's episode of Battlestar Galactica from tape. Now it's time
to get back to work. :)

Sunday 01:44

It's now possible to fly around and activate the collectors. When ship is
near a collector, contextual buttons activate for it. I modified the Turska
open source UI framework a bit so that it uses float coordinates when buttons
are scrolling with rest of the stuff, as everything else uses floats as well
and moves smoothly. Next I should make it possible to grab & detach a
collector. Well, it is already possible, but the little ship just doesn't
pull the collector yet with it. :)

Sunday 02:07

Chatted in irc for a while and washed my teeth, I think it's now time to
go to sleep a bit. =)

Sunday 10:05

Got up from bed, not feeling very well yet. Maybe I'll just try to wake up
and continue to work.

Sunday 10:59

And the music is done. At least for now, as there's only background music
with intro part.
LD48-8.XM

Sunday 11:33

Got ship pulling attached collector working now. Tried to bring three
collectors on top of each other and took a screenshot of that. :) Now it's
time to go away, eat some breakfast and maybe watch McGyver from TV. :-D
200604301135.jpg

Sunday 12:36

Back to work after eating something and watching TV.

Sunday 12:57

Actually I just wasted time on checking again what some others have done..
But now I'm actually going to continue doing stuff!

Sunday 13:21

Doing first alpha build for people to try out, although some important
things are still totally missing (like the base).

Sunday 13:37

Oh, we have still coffee left (my lovely wife did some for us :). Going to
drink that a bit more and maybe watch Simpsons from TV as well. Heh. :-)

Sunday 14:33

Oh yeah, time to get the base working.

Sunday 15:05

Still working on it, and noticing that I should do something to make it
easier to carry around the particles with the collectors as well.
200604301508.jpg

Sunday 16:02

After some funny tries and weird hacks, towing of the particles starts to
be somewhat tolerable gameplay-wise.

Sunday 16:51

Added rear & braking flames for the ship.

Sunday 17:54

Tuning gameplay. Made base to be active only when at least one active
collector is close enough to it.

Sunday 19:09

Created a title screen. :) Shouldn't have done that yet though, since there
still isn't any levels, for example! Or maybe I just needed a more "creative"
break from coding.
200604301911.jpg

Sunday 21:14

Spent time on adding some support for levels (only two for now) and
implemented a "briefing" screen, as well as added a tip system which shows
slowly different texts on screen for beginners.
200604302113.jpg

Sunday 21:28

Beta version is done! Ah, did I mention that I think name of the game will be
"Lone Warrior". :) Time for a short break as well.
lone_warrior_beta.zip

Sunday 22:06

During the break I ate a bit and finished reading a sci-fi novel I bought
a while ago (Mercury by Ben Bova).

Sunday 23:56

Created sound fx, but code for them is still missing.

Monday 00:36

Got some sfx code done. Now the game is working quite well. :) It would
be nice to have more levels than 3, but I don't think that's very important
for now.

Monday 01:13

After a playtesting session, it's time to put up a RC1/final build and
go to sleep! My hiscore is 465700. :)
