JADE PHOENIX - UPDATE LOG

Below is a list of the changes made to the game after each release (bug fixes, new features, etc).

Beta 1
======

- Added a new splash screen and title screen.

- The level select screen has been replaced with a password system. In order to start the game from a specific level, you must enter its password.

- Added an introduction screen for each level that displays the level's name and password.

- Since we're no longer in alpha, the Cheats menu has been removed.

- Added Crystal Hearts to some of the levels. These items will add another heart container to your health if you have less than 5, and they will always replenish one heart. If you die, your extra heart containers will disappear.

- Your character will now die instantly if they get stuck inside a wall. This is to prevent players from exploiting any glitches that involve sinking into walls.

- Several minor bugs have been fixed, including a bug that caused Wandy's animation to freeze after hitting a satellite dish.

Alpha 5
=======

- Added a Cheats menu, which allows the player to select the number of heart containers and the type of scales they have (scales allow the player to stay underwater for longer periods of time). This makes things easier for play testers when searching for bugs in some of the tougher levels.

- In addition to fullscreen, there is now an option to expand the window screen to 150% or 200% sizes.

- Changed the manner in which monsters respawn. Instead of monsters reappearing off-screen, they will now spawn after a certain amount of time and play a sound effect.

- The player can now only face 2 directions when swimming underwater, making it easier to target underwater monsters.

- Some monsters are now more likely to attack each other.

- Added new backgrounds for the forest levels, as well as other graphical tweaks.

Alpha 4.1
=========

- Fixed a more serious bug, which caused strange things to happen whenever the player died underwater. The player would sometimes begin the level inside a wall or have the ability to swim around in the air.

- A couple of minor bugs have been fixed, and the acceleration of the player when swimming has been increased slightly.

Alpha 4
=======

- The graphics and scenery in various levels has been changed and improved. In addition, the lamps in Lumina Villa are breakable during nighttime, and the waste baskets can be tipped over by dashing.

- The overall volume of the sound effects has been decreased. This allows for a wider range of volume changes, and is less likely to overload speakers. xP

- The game now features a completely original soundtrack. All MIDI music so far has been composed by Strife (me).

- Wanderer now has kitsune ears. In addition, the range and damage of his sword has been increased slightly.

- Mini bosses now have a visible life bar.

- Both characters' avatars have been updated.

- A moderate number of minor bugs have been fixed, including one where the player sank into the ground after hitting the end-of-level sattelite dish, some dialog mistakes where Wandy's avatar would appear while playing as Patjade, and various other problems that occured after a level was restarted.

Alpha 3
=======

- You can now choose from two playable characters! In addition to Patjade, you can play as Wanderer, and his abilities are noticeably different from Patjade's. Generally speaking, Wandy's attacks are more complicated but powerful. Instead of arrows, he'll find coloured orbs in some levels that will give temporary upgrades to his sword attack.

- Added extra options in the game's menu bar that allow you to select the volume of the sound and music.

- Fixed a bug that caused the player to "sink" into a wall if they tried to jump while dashing through a narrow tunnel.

- Added basic fidget animations for each character. They don't like standing still, you know. :P

- The music is now stored outside of the game and loaded externally, meaning that the game no longer skips/pauses when the music loops. Please DO NOT STEAL the midi files and use them in your own work, and DO NOT distribute them without asking the original composer. They're hidden for a reason.

Alpha 2
=======

- Fixed a bug that caused the controls to become "sticky" after switching focus to a different window. However, the new control scheme only allows six buttons to be used, so the button for dashing had to be removed. Remember, in order to dash, you must press the jump button WHILE holding the down key.

- Created a heading and a simple menu to make it easier to change settings, switch to/from full screen mode, and exit the game. This also allows the player to modify the controls.

- Added a level selecter.
