Day 1
For the past few nights my unconscious
mind has taken me to the most fantastic of
lands. I saw grand spires rising from the
ocean, a marvelous city erected by a race of
noble beings. While most of my dreams fade
to nothingness in the harsh light of day I
can remember these dreams with prefect clarity.
It is as if I have experienced these dreams
in my waking life, yet I know from my studies
that no such place could possibly exist.
These vivid dreams fascinate me and I plan
on spending the next few days chronicling
my nocturnal adventures.

Day 2
I had that same dream about the city on
the sea. This time I was able to walk among its
denizens. They all seem of high moral character
with nary a transient or degenerate in their
midst. Their proximity to the sea has brought
about some queer physiological characteristic.
While outwardly as human as the average man
walking down Times Square, their skin has a
slight blue green tinge and if you look closely
the membrane between their fingers is more
pronounced than that of the average man.
Tomorrow night if the dreams still keep coming
I will attempt to communicate with them.

Day 3
Yet another night has brought me back to
the strange city. While previous nights I was
content to be a passive observer, this night I
felt compelled to have some sort of dialog with
the city's inhabitants. Upon recollection I had
never before seen the city's inhabitants
communicate verbally. They seemed to always
know what was on the other's mind. Not knowing
which language with which to greet them I chose
the Queen's English.

I can't say things went very well. At
first my attempts to communicate were ignored
as one might try and ignore another man passing
wind on a crowded street. However after
repeated attempts it became clear to the
inhabitants that I was not involuntarily
passing wind. At first I was greeted with
confusion but eventually that gave way to
the most hideous of laughter. It felt as if
every one in the city was jeering me
simultaneously.

As I turned to flee hoping to return to
the conscious world of reason and logic I caught
a glimpse of the inside of one of their mouths.
In place of the flat pink tongue I expected,
there was a writhing mass of no less than eight
tentacle like appendages. Needless to say I woke
up in a cold sweat. Tomorrow night I will no
doubt abstain from heavy food before bed.

Day 4
My nightly return to the city did not go
very well. Where once I saw shining pillars of
light, I now see twisted and corrupted alien
architecture. The inhabitants I once considered
the panicle of social and biological progress I
now know for the twisted parodies of humanity
that they are. Perhaps the city has not changed
one bit but now my eyes are open to the subtle
flaws my naive mind was unable to pick up on.

Their form of writing, while undecipherable
to my eyes, does not proceed in the neat orderly
lines like that of all civilized cultures I have
studied. Instead it flows meaninglessly in any
direction occasionally growing or shrinking in
size with little care for uniformity that is
essential for any proper attempt at transcribing
or even translating.

The idols of religious worship these
people, though little more than animals, bear no
resemblance to our lord and savior. Indeed their
god had no humanoid form but rather is a mass of
writhing tentacles emanating from an oversized
cerebrum.

Day 5
I have taken to imbibing more cups of tea
than is normally advisable. I have no desire to
return to the hellish place of my dreams. Yet
tea alone was not enough to see me through the
night. I eventually fell asleep and was
instantly transported to that hideous city.
This time the inhabitants were waiting for me.
I sensed they wished to do me unspeakable harm
and took off in a mad dash down the winding
streets of the city. At every turn I was greeted
by salivating barbarians. They seemed to be
herding me to the center of the city. I
desperately wanted to be anywhere else. I
eventually was forced into the core of the city
where that hideous tentacled super brain awaited
me. The inhabitants cast me into the vat of
primordial ooze that contained the abomination
and I felt its presence invading my mind. If it
were not for the sudden return to consciousness
my alarm clock gave me I fear I may have gone
mad.

Day 6
I have resorted to more drastic means to
keep my self awake. In my possession is a supply
of energy tablets I purchased to keep me alert
during the late night study sessions of my
university days. I also discovered several
syringes of a less wholesome drugs athletes
use to enhance their performance on the sporting
field. By consuming a steady flow of these
substances I was able to avoid sleep this entire
night. I would count it a victory if it were not
for this nervous shake that has developed in my
writing hand.

Day 7
My thoughts are constantly racing in many
directions at once. I know I dare not sleep for
the abomination of my dreams could consume me at
any time. However with each dose of my special
medication I feel the walls between its reality
and my own grow thinner. Occasionally I can hear
it working its way through the septic system of
the lighthouse where I work and live. I have
moved my remaining supply of medication to the
top of the tower. That combined with the near
blinding glare of the main lamp should be enough
to forestall another trip into that nightmare
world. The only thing I return to ground level
for is to use the water closet. I do so with the
utmost trepidation and always with my stout cane
at my side.

Day 8
Dear god it is here....
