Written for the Retro Remakes Competition 2006. But I missed the deadline. DOH!

Highway Encounter is a remake of the classic game for a number of 8 bit machines. This version was inspired by the ZX Spectrum version.

A bunch of your guys (called Vortons) need to shove a super-duper weapon up a long highway to destroy some super-important enemy ship at the end. Vortons that you're not controlling will automatically push it forward as long as the way is clear. It's therefore your job to do this. Blast the enemy to pieces and trap the unshootable foes with barrels or moveable walls to protect your convoy. You start at Zone 30; at Zone 0, all your remaining vortons will self-destruct and the weapon will automatically move to the enemy ship and give it what's coming to it. Then you'll start again, except the enemy will be faster. Good luck.

You control your vorton by rotating it left and right and moving forward (UP) and braking (DOWN). You also have a fire button. You can choose your own keys or joystick/pad at the main menu.

ADDITIONAL KEYS
Use the F1-F4 keys to change view in-game

EDIT MODE
There is an edit mode which will allow you to make your own levels. Most of the things you need to do can be done with the mouse, and details of other controls are available at any time by pressing H. The edit mode tells you this anyway, so don't bother writing that down or trying to remember it. I only told you so that you'd feel comfortable to take the plunge and give it a go.

Version 1.11 amendment

- Quick n dirty bug fix: earlier version prone to occasionally creating collisions when none took place

=========================

Creating texture sets

1. Create a new folder under the "texturesets" subfolder
2. Copy the contents of the "default" subfolder to the new subfolder you just created
3. Modify/replace the textures to your heart's content. Do not rename any files.

Under the graphics options in-game, you can now select your new texture set. If you create a decent texture set, I would be very grateful if you could zip your new folder and email it to bankie@bankie.com so that others can download and enjoy your creation.
