Go For It! v1.12

GFI is a simple but well paced and challenging game for one or two players on the same computer. Its great for deciding who pays for lunch. :o)

Requirements
============

This version of GFI is designed to run under Windows using DirectX 7. The minimum requirements are:

- P133 CPU
- Windows 95/98
- DirectX 7
- 1 MB of disk space

Note that the above requirements are for guidance only and may not be correct.

Object of the Game
==================

The object of GFI is to beat your opponent to the token (a sort of spinning square thing) by driving your hover ship over it. Each time you "pick up" a token. Once a token has been collected a new token will be placed in a random location. The first player to get 25 points is the winner, its as simple as that!

Controlling the Action
======================

In single player mode you are up against the computer. Beware because the computer is fast, but it can beaten!

Single Player Controls:

Up/down cursors = Move ship forwards/backwards

Left/right cursors = Steer ship left/right

In two player mode you can compete against your buddy.

Two Player Controls:

Player 1:

Q/A = Move ship forwards/backwards

O/P = Steer ship left/right

Player 2:

Up/down cursors = Move ship forwards/backwards

Left/right cursors = Steer ship left/right

Changing the Video Resolution
=============================

By default that game runs in 640 by 480. To run in any other resolutions you will have to specify these on the command line in the following syntax:

gfi.exe -res <WIDTH> <HEIGHT>

For example, to run in 1024 by 768 pixels use "gfi.exe -res 1024 768".

Note that the supplied "LowRes.bat" will run the game in 320 by 200.

Tips
====

You may find it easier to beat the computer if you stop before turning. This reduces your turning circle meaning that you have less ground to cover.

Distribution/License
====================

GFI is freeware. In this case this means that you can give it to anybody you like in its original form free of charge. This includes putting it on CDs and other media (including web sites an other on-line resources) for distribution but GFI itself has to be free of charge!

You use this software entirely at your own risk.

The only things that you can't do are modify GFI or claim that it is the work of anybody except me.

Changes
=======

Changes from v1.11 to 1.12

- Fixed a lock up bug under Windows 2000
- Slowed down the animation on the menu screen
- SOme minor updates

Changes from v1.1 to 1.11

- GFI should no longer exit if it can't find a sound card. This means that people with no sound cards can play GFI (with no sound of course!).
- The menus now have sound! Also the sound code has been rewritten so it should be a little smoother
- GFI will now pick an appropriate video driver for you rather than forcing DirectX. Hopefully this should allow GFI to work on more PCs (some people have reported problems when GFI attempts to set the default 640 by 480 DirextX video mode).
