*** ATLANTIS ***
(C) 2005 Lysozyme

The glittering ancient underwater city of Atlantis is under attack!
The Gorgons, long-time enemies, seek to pound the city into bite-sized
pieces, but not if you have anything to say about it! Man the two
anti-aircraft (AA) guns and Sentinel Saucer and duke it out! How many days
can you survive?!

CONTROLS

Mouse Moves the crosshairs or Sentinel Saucer
Left mouse button Fires the left AA gun or left saucer missile
Right mouse button Fires the right AA gun or right saucer missile
SPACE BAR Launch the Sentinel Saucer
P Pause the game
ESC Quit the game

AA GUNS

Fire either the left or right AA gun, and the bolt travels towards the
crosshair, where the bolt explodes. It will hit anything there, and along
the way.
The left or right gun will fire once each time you press the
appropriate mouse button. The faster you bang those buttons, the more
shots in the air!
   The guns cannot be destroyed.

SENTINEL SAUCER

The crosshairs disappear when the saucer is launched, and reappears
when it returns to its landing pad in the middle island.
The saucer is moved with the mouse, and fires either to the right or
left. Any enemy hit by a missile is toast!!
Watch the saucer's fuel level (shown under the landing pad)! It refuels
when on the landing pad, and slowly drops when in flight. Each missile
fired costs you one fuel. A warning claxon will sound when the level drops
below 10. Land then!! Maximum fuel level is 99.
Collisions with enemy ships cost 10 fuel (and destroys the enemy ship).
The saucer explodes when it crashes with the ocean or the fuel level reaches
0 or less.

ENEMIES

Enemy ship types: Bandit Bomber
                    Spar Module
                    Bi-Winged Bullet
                    Squid Bomber
                    Rocket Rally
                    Astro Orbiter
                    Cosmic Crawler
                    Space Pod
                    Silver Shuttle

In the Normal difficulty, there are 4 ships to a squadron, and 3 squadrons
to a wave. In Tough, there are 6 ships to a squadron. The enemies will move
faster each day, and in Tough move faster from day one. Typically, only one
ship will appear for each pass, but in Tough by the fifth day sometimes extra
ships will appear, to spice things up!
Each enemy ship type has a different movement pattern (straight line, wave-
like motion, sine-wave, and sharp and up and down evasive action).
There is one wave per phase of day (Day, Dusk, Night) for 3 in total per day.
At night, the searchlights scan the sky for enemies. You will have to learn to
anticipate enemy movements at night in order to shoot them down.
Enemies start their attack at the top of the screen, and move downwards
with each pass. If not destroyed by the fourth pass, the fly low over the city
and fire their sole weapon, the Deathray, which can demolish an entire section
of the city.
The Brutal difficulty level is a special case. You will have a whole mass of
enemies attacking at once, and must be destroyed before their fourth pass. 50 ships
must be destroyed in day one, and more and more are added each day. There is
no dusk or night in the Brutal difficulty.
After day 4, sometimes an enemy may take two AA shots to destroy (you'll see
a green flash), and after day 9, may take up to 3 hits to destroy! Sentinel Saucer
missiles will destroy ANYTHING with one shot!

SCORING

Destroying ships with the AA guns gets you 10 points times the number of days
survived.
Destroying ships with the Sentinel Saucer gets you 40 points times the number
of days survived.
