          ACABAN's standard stage editor

by Unif Studios 2007

. INTRODUCTION
-------------/

With ACAedit you can create, edit and modify stages and campaigns for ACABAN. The editor is easy to use. You just have to keep in mind a few restrictions when creating your stages. As for the rest, your own creativity is the only thing that limits your ACABAN experience!

. CREATING A LEVEL
-----------------/

When you create a level, you have to keep in mind some basic stuff:

       - The beginning: Where does the player start off. Don't set this outside the map you've prepared!
       - Exit points: there must be at least one exit points (there could be several!) and at least one should be reachable by the player. It's no fun when levels are impossible to finish, right?
       - Helpers: each helper has a type and a number, and has assigned a list of dialog boxes. Make sure you follow the rules you'll find below (in the "creating a campaign" section) for your helpers to have their dialogs assigned properly.
       - Enemys: have in mind each one's properties, especially for those that are hard to kill when toghether, like Timi or Maloshot (see readme.txt).
       - Links: choose where to place links (gates, teleporters) carefully, or you could take the player somewhere he couldn't get out. Remember that you can toggle links display in the editor to make sure everything is correct.
       - Switches: each switch affects only the door-tiles of its own kind and from its same tileset. Have this in mind when building your maps!
       - Performance: if you place thousands of enemys and lots of background tiles (such as stairs, beams, etc) it's possible that performance will suffer a hit in certain PCs. Don't overload the map to achieve your desired level of difficulty, just place the right enemys in the right places!

. BASIC CONTROLS
---------------/

(CONTROL +) MOUSE LEFT : places the tile you currently have selected, or selects a tile (if you are over the tile list at the top) or an object (when you are over the object list at the bottom). If you press Control while over the map, it would paint on the back layer.

(CONTROL +) MOUSE RIGHT : deletes the tile, leaving it's place empty. With Control, it does the same thing on the back layer.

(CONTROL +) SPACE : toggles the viewing of the front layer. With control it does the same with the back layer.

(SHIFT +) CURSORS : moves the map in the selected direction. With Shift, it does so faster.

H : Relocates the players start point (Home)

Z, X : toggle the direction the next enemy you place will look at. You can see the current state on the right

(SHIFT +) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8: places an enemy of that type. If you hold Shift, the enemy will be aligned to the "grid".
               1: Patrol
               2: Sustis
               3: Tres
               4: Timi
               5: Chaser
               6: Maloshot
               7: Gusano
               8: Onasug
               9: Teknit

(SHIFT +) TAB : places the selected object in the current mouse position. With Shift, it gets aligned to the tile. In the case that the object selected is the "delete" object (the last one), it elliminates the object closer to the mouse in a certain radius.

DEL : Deletes the enemy close to the mouse. If there are several close, then the closest one.

PGAGE UP, PAGE DOWN : changes the current tileset to the next one or the previous one, respectively. You can see the number of the current tileset (1 to x) on the left.

V : toggles the displaying of links. When active, you will see a green indicator on the botton left of the screen.

L : inserta a new link at the current mouse position. Here's how links work:
There are 126 links available, numbered 1 to 126. Each one of theese converts a tile into a teleporter to another tile with which it is linked. Link number 0 is reserved to indicate absence of link, and link number 127 links to the next stage. Only one link of the remaining 126 is allowed per map (with its own entry and exit points).
When inserting the special link number 0 in a tile, its previous link gets deleted.
There can be several links to the next level.
The teleporter gets activated as soon as the player enters the tile, so it's a good option to make gates that would take him to a different place in the stage.
If one link's number is above 64, no sound is played when the link is used. Otherwise, the standard sound for crossing gates is played (steps). An exception to this is the "take me to the next level" special link, which always causes a sound to be played.

I : changes the author, name and description of the map. These data appears when starting to play the stage. You will usually want to write just the map's name and maybe the author. Otherwise you might overwhelm the player with too much data at the begining.

M : changes the music for the stage. You'll have to try and associate each music with its corresponding number.

O : loads a map (open). You'll loose the one loaded before, so be careful and remember to save it!

S : saves the current map. You won't be asked to confirm when overwriting, so be careful!

ALT + X : almost forgot it! this quits the editor.

. CREATING A CAMPAIGN
--------------------/

To create a campaign, you will probably need something more than just stages.
To start with, a campaign is just a list of stages going from number 1 to the number you want, put n. If you save your campaign in custom/ and it's called test, you would load if from the game as "custom/test", and the names for the stages must be in this format :
       custom/test1.amf
       custom/test2.amf
       custom/test3.amf
       ...
       custom/testn.amf

When the game reaches the last one and cannot find any more, the statistics screen will be brought up.
You must have in mind that the name for the campaign cannot have a number at the end, so a name like test1, with 3 stages like this is not allowed:
       custom/test11.amf
       custom/test12.amf
       custom/test13.amf
This would mess everything up, so please avoid it. Avoiding numbers at all is recommended.

But with just this, our campaign would be a little bit poor, isn't it? We would also need stage transitions...
Transitions really happen BEFORE the stage starts. If you want to include transitions before stage 1, you have to put IN THE SAME DIRECTORY png files (not bigger than 640x480) named like this:
       custom/test1_c1.png
       custom/test1_c2.png
       custom/test3_c3.png
       ...

Once again, you can add as many transitions as you please for every stage... in this case (though a bit too obvious) we've taken the name of our previously created campaign. You write the name of yours.

And of course, those helpers you have put all around the map... it would be great if they could talk! Their dialogs are just png files too, which are showed up in the middle of the game.
Here we have to differentiate between Mr X' helpers (blue) and the Empress' helpers (yellow). Each helper make his own dialog to pop up. This dialog is associated whith him by its name. Mr X' helpers have their dialogs named with the stage's name followed by "_txN_M.png" where N is the helper's number (1 to 10) and M is the dialog's number (1 to the number you want). Each helper will continously pop up his dialogs 1, 2, 3, 4... until he can find no more.
Empress' helpers work the same way but they use suffix "_teN_M.png" to name the dialog files.
There is another kind of helpers, invisible helpers. These ones use suffix "_tiN_M.png" to name their files.

Here's an example:
       custom/test1_tx1_1.png
       custom/test1_tx1_2.png
       custom/test1_tx1_3.png
       custom/test1_tx1_4.png
       custom/test1_tx2_1.png
       custom/test1_tx3_1.png
       custom/test1_te1_1.png
       custom/test1_te1_2.png
       custom/test1_ti1_1.png
       ...

It's obviously useless to create more dialogs for a stage than the helpers it has. For example if there are only 2 helpers in the stage and you create a file named custom/test1_tx3_1.png. That file will never be displayed. You can, however, place helpers who have not any dialog. The helper will simply stay quiet there.

To end with, you can put credits files that will appear at the end of the campaign (before statistics). You proceed the same way as with stage transitions, but without the stage number, and with the suffix "_credN" where N is the number, starting with 1. For example:
       custom/test_cred1.png
       custom/test_cred2.png
       custom/test_cred3.png
One important thing to remember is that file naming is case sensitive! Try to always use lowercase to name your files or they could work improperly or even not work at all with certaing configurations.

. AS A CONCLUSION
----------------/

This is more or less everything you need to know to create an ACABAN campaign. The rest is up to you and your imagination. Good luck! We would be very thankful if you send us the campaigns you make!

Editor de escenarios estandar para ACABAN

by Unif Studios 2007

 INTRODUCCION
-------------/

       custom/prueba0_tx1_1.png
       custom/prueba0_tx1_2.png
       custom/prueba0_tx1_3.png
       custom/prueba0_tx1_4.png
       custom/prueba0_tx2_1.png
       custom/prueba0_tx3_1.png
       custom/prueba0_te1_1.png
       custom/prueba0_te1_2.png
       custom/prueba0_ti1_1.png
       ...
